Dirk Gently is probably one of the most special private detectives you could imagine. Not that he is far better than the other smart ones of his kind. But his skills are far from usual. Well let's go to the point. Dirk is not a superhero. But he's "more interested in telekinesis, quantum mechanics and lunch than fiddling around with fingerprint powder, so his investigations tend to produce startling and unexpected results".

Due to to his very special skills, his searches are a bit complicated and will lead him to meet Bach, Thor, a secret-time traveller, a bewildered ghost, a fierce eagle, and much more !

The first Dirk Gently book is described as a "ghost/horror/detective/time travel/romantic comedy epic". But the second book "The dark tea time of soul" is quite unusual too. And I won't even mention the third and unfinished Dirk Gently book : "The salmon of doubt".

Not as popular as Hitchhiker's, Dirk is a fascinating character who deserves his own section on this website.

He's already the hero of a renewed theatre play, and now is the star of its own radio series thanks to the BBC and Dirk Maggs.
